Swansea Golf Club Report Saturday 18th June 2016


The men’s and ladies’ Foursome Championships were played in ideal conditions. A nett competition for all players was held in conjunction with the championship. In the Ladies event Sally Siepen and Alison Donaldson won the championship by a point from Pat Hardcastle and Louise McKenna with a gross score of 92.


In the men’s event Ricky Wright and Max Hall won with an excellent score of 69 gross. They were also the winners of the nett competition with a score of 59. The runners up were Murray Lethborg and Mal Brittain with a score of 62. Nearest to the pin winners were Sally Siepen, Mal Sinclair and Paul Morris.

East Coast Championship Results June 10, 11 and 12

Swansea Golf Club News 10th 11th and 12 June 2016

Swansea Golf Club conducted the East Coast Open Championship over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend. The event attracted keen golfers from many parts of the state. Despite the extremely cold conditions, competitors did not have to contend with rain.


The men’s stroke event was held on Saturday in which there were three divisions. All divisions required a play off to decide the winners. The A Division was won by Mark Freeman from the Claremont Club defeating Paul Read from the Tasmania Club with gross 67. A Division nett winner was Tim Bond with a score of 64.  In the play off for B Division Michael Hollingsworth, 81 defeated Geoff Williams. Geoff also won the nett competition with a score of 64. The C Division was a local affair with Malcolm Sinclair winning the play off from John Quinn.


Overall best nett score for the men’s stroke and winner of the Wineglass Bay Cruise is Ray Dart


The Women’s Foursomes championship was won by Karen Calvert and Nicole Hollingsworth from the Tea Tree Club. Swansea’s Jane Richardson and Gill Foster were the runners up. Louise McKenna and Pat Hardcastle took out thenett winners’ prize.


On Sunday the women’s stroke event sponsored by Wrest Pointwas won by Karen Calvert 71 with Nicole Hollingsworth runner up 75. Sally Siepen won the nett prize 63 on a count back from Val Kemp.


The men’s Foursomes Champions are Paul Read and Mark Freeman with a gross 63 with Derrick McPherson and Eddie Saville carding a round of 64 to fill second spot. Malcolm Sinclair and Howard Edgintontook out the nett prize carding 53.5.Jim Morris and Ray Dart were runners up on a count back from John Lansky and Peter Calvert.


Eighteen couples turned out on Monday for the mixed Canadian foursome’s event sponsored by the Hollingsworth familyThe Hollingsworth Trophy is a nett competition, and the popular winners were Alison Donaldson and Mal Brittain with a nettscore of 54 with Rick and Kathy Dance only one stroke behind in second position. Gross winners were Peter and Karen Calvert with a score of 64.


The Sunday prize presentation was followed by a fabulous dinner catered for by the Bark Mill Tavern team.

A small but enthusiastic field competed for the June Monthly Medal. The convincing winner was John Cotton scoring a net 63, John also had the best gross score of 76. Runner up was Max Hall 66 on a count back from Murray Lethborg. Next best score of 67 was posted by Sally Siepen and Fran Dowling. The Morris Memorial Match Play quarter finals were held in conjunction with the medal competition 

Nearest to the pin winners were Sally Siepen and Murray Lethborg.

A field of 27 contested the Monthly Medal. Rod Smith won with a very convincing score of 83/56. John Cotton was runner up 76/63 on a count back from Ray Dart, Alison Smith, John Quinn and Mike Woolveridge. Nearest to the pin winners on 4/16 was Mike Woolvridge and on the 7/16 which was keenly contested Maurice Banks took the prize.

A reminder that entry forms for the East Coast Open Championships close 2nd June in order that the draw can be published.
